Abstract of the Talk?

In this expert talk, Dr. Jurjen Luykx will provide a brief overview of current knowledge on the relationship between climate change and mental health, followed by their recently published and emerging findings at the intersection of climate and psychiatry. Dr. Luykx will conclude with an overview of the scope, key themes, and major findings of The Lancet Psychiatry Commission on Climate Change and Mental Health.

About the Speaker

Dr. Jurjen Luykx is a psychiatrist at Amsterdam University Medical Center and GGZ InGeest. He treats patients with difficult-to-treat psychosis, bipolar disorder, and other forms of severe mental illness. He leads the Amsterdam Stratified Psychiatry Lab where his research focuses on clinical trials, real-world studies, applied genetics, and planetary mental health. He enjoys collaborating in international teams of researchers and clinicians. The overarching goals of his work are to improve outcomes for people with severe mental illness and to help prevent mental illness in individuals at particularly high environmental risk, thereby advancing precision psychiatry.

About ARISE

ARISE (Augsburger Nachwuchsprogramm für Organismus, Nervensystem und Umwelt) is a junior research training program at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Augsburg. It is a funded by the Else Kr?ner-Fresenius Foundation (EKFS) and aims to educate and further train young physicians at the interface of environmental sciences and translational neuroscience. By inviting leading researchers and experts, the ARISE seminar series offers a platform for graduate students, staff, researchers, clinician scientists, and professors of the faculty to learn on emerging issues in the field, discuss relevant scientific challenges and opportunities, and facilitate networking and collaboration across research groups, chairs, departments, and universities.
