Our Welcome Week takes place at the start of every semester and is open to all new students at the Department of Geography. In addition to an official orientation event, we organize various activities such as a campus scavenger hunt, a city tour of Augsburg, and a group pub crawl. This gives you the chance to get to know the campus and the city, and, most importantly, to make your first connections with your fellow students.

Our Geohütte will take place in October. We’ll spend a weekend together at a cabin in the Allg?u, where you can get to know your fellow students better while cooking together, playing games, or enjoying cozy evenings, and have a great time together. All interested freshmen are warmly invited to join us! We’ll send you more detailed information about the event in due time.

At the WaMoVo (Elective Module Presentation), we’ll introduce all interested students to the elective modules available in Human Geography and Physical Geography. The goal is to give you an overview and help you decide which modules to choose. We’ll be joined by experienced students who have already taken these modules and will share their personal experiences with you.

The highlight of the year is the Institute of Geography’s annual summer party. The student council provides barbecue food and drinks, and the Geoband provides live music. Students and faculty come together to dance, celebrate, or simply enjoy a relaxing evening. All current and former geography students at the University of Augsburg, as well as their friends, are warmly invited!

For over ten years, we’ve been hosting our Geoparty twice a year (in June and December)—first at the Mahagoni Bar, then at the cafeteria, and for the past few years at the 100hz Club. All students and staff of the Department of Geography are invited, as well as anyone else who’d like to join the fun! We’ll have great music and student-friendly drink prices.

During Advent, we host a mulled wine and cookie sale in the lobby of the Department of Geography. Every year, we collect donations for a selected organization that is committed to the common good and supports social or charitable projects through its work. And who knows—with a little luck, if we raise enough donations, maybe even St. Nicholas will drop by one of our lectures...
