The topic of “Campusbecher – reusable instead of disposable” is a prime example of the sustainable change taking place at our university, which goes far beyond the mere introduction of reusable cups. At its heart is a comprehensive deposit system that includes not only reusable coffee cups, but also cereal bowls and even cafeteria meals in reusable packaging. This initiative consistently replaces disposable products and thus contributes significantly to reducing plastic waste. Disposable cups are no longer issued at the coffee machines in the cafeterias; instead, students and staff use reusable cups that are returned and cleaned after use. Plastic has also been replaced by paper in the packaging of bread rolls and pastries, while plastic cutlery and drinking straws have been completely abolished and replaced by wooden products. These measures show how consistently the University of Augsburg is committed to sustainable alternatives.
