Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d), Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Materials Engineering

The department of Physics at the University of Augsburg has an open position in the group of Prof. Dr. Nadine Schwierz starting?from September 1st, 2026 as

?Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d)
Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Ionizable Lipid Systems and Lipid Nanoparticles

with salary 100% TV-L E13 fixed-term contract for 2 years

Project overview: Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) represent one of the most promising technologies for the delivery of RNA-based therapeutics into cells. Despite their tremendous biomedical relevance, the molecular mechanisms underlying pH-triggered structural transitions, membrane fusion, and RNA release remain insufficiently understood. This project aims to uncover the fundamental biophysical mechanisms by which ionizable lipids regulate structural and functional behavior in ionizable lipid systems and lipid nanoparticles. The research will focus on modeling lipid systems and performing molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. In addition, the project involves the calculation of neutron and X-ray scattering signals from simulations and their quantitative comparison with experimental data.
