Promoting the acquisition of high-quality third-party funding
The aim of the University of Augsburg is to strengthen group applications (particularly those for DFG funding programmes formally referred to as coordinated programmes, e.g., Research Training Groups, Research Units, Collaborative Research Centres, and the coordination of Horizon Europe Projects), as well as particularly high-ranking, large volume individual funding (e.g., ERC Grants).
?
A central and necessary condition for success in the acquisition of high-ranking third-party projects is convincing, relevant, and highly-ranked published preliminary work, which demonstrates the disciplinary expertise of the applicants and reduces any existing risks for the success of the project from the perspective of the funder. This applies to all funding formats offered by funders important to the university.
?
The purpose of the internal university funding is therefore to promote the creation and coordination of third-party funding applications, as well as to promote publications leading to preliminary work necessary for extensive third-party funding applications, in particular international publications in peer reviewed journals.
?
The programme is thematically open. However, preference is given to third-party funding applications that are strategically important for the faculties, the relevant disciplines, and the university. Professors who have not been relieved of their duties and faculty members holding a doctorate are entitled to apply. The awards procedure is strictly quality- and scientifically orientated. It is carried out by a selection committee in collaboration with the faculties. External experts are also involved for anonymous review. A written application oriented along the lines of the DFG format is required. The details are outlined in the following description.
?
After four rounds of calls for applications with over 30 funded projects, the funding programme is currently being evaluated.
