The University of Augsburg and its faculties have demonstrated large-scale success in the acquisition of third-party funded projects and have been able to increase the total volume of third-party funding. The university and its faculties nevertheless aim to make better use of existing research potential to acquire high-ranking third-party projects and thereby enable research at the most advanced level. Highly ranked publications are usually not only the result but also a necessary prerequisite for the successful acquisition of third-party funding.

Based on this, the University Executive and the faculties have decided to strengthen research at the University of Augsburg in general and, in particular, with respect to the acquisition of highly-ranked third-party funds. The packet of measures “Better use of research potential” contains several lines of support and incentives. The aim is to further strengthen applications for collaborative projects (Research Training Groups, Research Units, Collaborative Research Centres). The capacity for collaborative research proposals must be built through sustained success in the acquisition of individual research projects.

Promotion of the acquisition of highly-ranked third-party funds

A central funding component of the packet of measures is an internal university programme for the promotion of research projects that serve as preliminary work for highly-ranked third-party funded projects.
