The Advanced Methods courses build on the knowledge acquired in the bachelor's program and deepen methodological knowledge of economics. Here, students can take modules in machine learning, econometrics, advanced microeconomics or methodology-oriented seminars.
The Global Business and Economics courses, together with methodological training, forms the basis of the GBM Master's program. Students can choose from a wide range of courses, including modules on marketing, digitalization and AI, corporate governance and strategy, healthcare, econometrics, financial market research, and many more.
Sustainability, or the sustainable use of natural, productive physical, digital, and financial resources, is one of the central themes of a globalized economy. In this concentration, students can acquire broad knowledge of ethical and sustainable business practices or deepen their knowledge of environmental and development economics and digital sustainability. Sustainability is understood from three perspectives: economic, social, and ecological.
The increasing importance of knowledge-intensive industries, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and the deconstruction of value chains, international competition between regions, and declining economies of scale in production are leading to a shift from an industrial society to a global ¡°entrepreneurial society.¡± Particular attention is also paid here to digital innovations and their disruptive economic and social impact. Corresponding business models are analyzed strategically. As part of this concentration, you can take modules on the topics of entrepreneurship and innovation.
Enables students to develop an awareness of the social, cultural, scientific, and ethical implications of management decisions. Critical reflection on the task at hand enables students to align their own decision-making behavior with the well-being of those involved and to assume social, professional, and organizational responsibility in international working groups. Students learn to integrate their knowledge in such a way that both research- and application-oriented projects can be carried out largely autonomously.
?
Independent Research Project
- Completion of an independent research project within the framework of GBM research.
- Particularly suitable for students who are considering pursuing a doctorate after completing their master's degree.
Independent Consulting Project
- Independent implementation of a consulting project in an economic context.
- Use of the faculty's extensive network of national and international companies.
As part of the GBM (M.Sc.) program, you are required to complete a mandatory semester abroad. You can currently choose from 188 partner institutions with which 281 exchange agreements are in place. Applications for specific partner institutions are submitted during the first semester of study via the Center for International Relations (CIR) and the International Office at the University of Augsburg.
The master's thesis is the final project and thus the largest individual assignment in the program. The thesis is usually prepared as part of a seminar taken in the Global Business and Economics module groups or one of the concentrations. Students can choose from a wide range of research-oriented or practice-oriented seminars. The thesis can be more strongly oriented towards a scientific approach or, alternatively, carried out with a practical partner. Often, the Independent Project develops into a master's thesis, which then also incorporates the extensive experience gained during the semester abroad.?
?
A master's thesis can also be written at the foreign university (provided that this is permitted and a supervisor can be found there). In this case, it is possible to extend the stay abroad. However, it is advisable to consult a supervising professor in Augsburg in order to be able to have the examination grade credited accordingly. This arrangement effectively allows students to complete?half of their degree in Augsburg and half at one of the partner universities.
