We are delighted that Dr Meral Roeben joined the English Didactics team at the University of Augsburg in October 2025 and congratulate her on the very successful defence of her doctoral thesis entitled ‘Simulations in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Teacher Education – Investigating Subject-Specific and Cross-Domain Diagnostic Skills in Technology-Related Teaching’ at Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) in Munich.

Dr Meral Roeben studied to become a secondary school teacher at LMU. After successfully completing her teaching internship, she worked as a research assistant at the Chair of English Language and Literature Didactics. During this time, she completed her external doctoral studies at the Chair of Empirical Pedagogy and Educational Psychology under Prof. Dr Frank Fischer at LMU. The doctoral programme was conducted in cooperation with the Chair of Didactics of English Language and Literature (Prof. Dr. Christiane Lütge), with a focus on simulation-based learning in the context of English language teaching. Dr. Meral Roeben's other research interests include teacher professionalisation, teaching quality, and teaching and learning with digital media – particularly in the context of English language teaching.
