The Resource Lab of the University of Augsburg is a host institution of the Mobility and Peer Mentoring Programme to Support Small Island Developing States (SIDS)
Together with visiting professor Prof. Dr. Simron Singh, the Resource Lab of the University of Augsburg develops solution-oriented approaches in the field of Industrial Ecology. A particular focus is placed on adaptation measures for small island states. Currently, the research group is investigating the resource requirements of the Maldives in the context of future sea-level rise. Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are on the front lines of climate change and regularly rank among the most affected countries in numerous risk and climate vulnerability indices. The initiative combines virtual components with an in-person phase of up to two months at a leading institution, during which the Resource Lab of the University of Augsburg plays a central role in academic supervision, mentoring, and methodological capacity building. Participants gain access to research methods, resources, and global networks and work in interdisciplinary teams to develop practice-oriented solutions for climate adaptation. In 2026, up to twelve participants?will be selected, each receiving funding of up to CAD 12,000 to fully cover mobility costs and to become part of an international network of “Hubs of Island Innovation.” ? Information on eligibility requirements and the application process can be found at the following link: https://metabolismofislands.org/about/hub-of-island-innovation/ Application deadline: 9 March 2026, 5:00 p.m. (EST)

Against this backdrop, the Resource Lab of the University of Augsburg is actively involved as an associated partner in the international RECOVER project and, together with its project partners, has initiated the mobility and peer mentoring programme “Hubs of Island Innovation.” The aim of the programme is to strengthen knowledge transfer on climate adaptation in SIDS and to sustainably build scientific and practical capacities among researchers and practitioners on the ground. The six-month programme was developed in close collaboration with experts from SIDS.
