Contribute Your Ideas to the Open Forum on Developing a Sustainable University
Where does the University of Augsburg stand in terms of its sustainable development and how can it move forward? This will be discussed at the “Open Forum for a Sustainable University: Where we Stand, Perspectives, and Implementation” held by the Green Office on Monday, the 27th of April 2026. The event starts at 14:00 pm at the Centre for Climate Resilience, Building 1, Room 1201/1202. The forum links up with the first event held in November 2024 in the context of the Public Climate School. It is intended for members of the university as well as people external to the university from society, politics, business, and other universities. It aims to inform about current developments and provide a space for exchange and participation. In 2024, the University of Augsburg developed a sustainability strategy and for the first time in 2025 a climate protection concept. At the open forum, current insights into this will be provided. Among other things, the initial results of the greenhouse gas balance, current climate protection measures, and the introduction of the environmental management system EMAS will be presented. The first part of the event, ?from 14:00 pm to 15:15 pm, will provide a compact overview of the current status of the “Green Transformation” at the university and the work of the Green Office. During the participative part of the event, from 15:45 pm to 16:45 pm, participants are invited to get involved in four thematic tables. Questions regarding sustainability in research and teaching, about campus operations, as well as how a sustainable University of Augsburg in 2040 could look like, will be discussed. The round tables are not only about the provision of information but also about participation. The event shall integrate perspectives, experiences, and recommendations from as many areas of the university as possible, particularly those from students. At the end, key insights from the discussions will be collated and an outlook with respect to further steps will be provided. Light refreshments will be provided during the event.
